WMETACOM 2020 – 3rd Workshop on Media, Applied Technology and Communication

Scope
The development of journalism and communication is directly related to democracy. In this sense, as the information and communication technologies progress in modern societies, excellence and transparency regarding all fields (management, production, participation and accountability) become a requirement for media companies as well as for the communicators themselves. Already since the understanding of this process, we can see that the knowledge, research and implementation of these precepts foster dialogue and feedback among the organizations, the media and the public, having an impact on three key aspects:
•    Better communications campaigns from public and private organizations;
•    Reinforcement of the intervention role regarding media and strengthening of specialized and quality journalistic articles;
•    Greater civic participation through mainly digital formal and informal mechanisms.
In the midst of the numerous and major changes where the dialogue among these three actors takes place, the applied technology helps generate more and better social interaction processes. This is possible by measuring the reactions from the public in several fields and by assessing the impact of the organizations in the construction of social, cultural and environmental values. The media, as part of the new consumption models, must inevitably make the most of the potential of the new information and communication technology.  Thus, this workshop is an open proposal to a research, study and debate on the relationship among organizations, media and the general public in a context mediated by the rapid development of applied technology and with a change of relational paradigm that has provoked major changes in other social sectors.
The workshop call is coordinated by Medios, Tecnologías Aplicadas y Comunicación, METACOM (Media, Applied Technology and Communication), from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador Sede Ibarra, by the Master on Communication and Public Opinion from Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (Ecuador), by the Facultad de Diseño y Comunicación de la Universidad de Palermo (Buenos Aires), by the Universidade de Vigo and by the Escuela de Ciencias Humanas de la Universidad del Rosario.
The call is also coordinated by Red Internacional de Investigación de Gestión de la Comunicación, XESCOM (the International Network of Communication Management, XESCOM) (ED341D R2016/019). Besides, the XESCOM network is supported by the Consellería de Educación, Cultura e Ordenación Universitaria de la Xunta de Galicia (Regional Ministry of Education, Culture, and Academic Management of Xunta de Galicia, Spain) and other research groups in Spain and Ecuador.
